The 3rd most important industry in San Diego is tourism, and it’s obvious why. Good weather year round is the rule in San Diego, but particularly May – August when tourists are on the move. This makes the things you can do anywhere even more fun. The only thing you could add to make a better holiday destination is an ocean. You can find theme parks and museums in most major metropolitan areas. Those in San Diego, though, are unique. Here are some of the top attractions you’ll encounter in San Diego.
San Diego is famed for its Zoo and Wild Animal Park. The zoo, home to 4,000 animals, is located in Balboa Park near downtown San Diego. The Wild Animal Park in Escondido houses another 3,500 animals on 1,800 acres. Both parks offer a variety of educational programs and summer camps for kids in addition to the beautiful exhibits available for tourists to see.
Fifteen museums, including history, sports, art, science, air & space and trains, also call Balboa Park home. There’s something for everyone here. If San Diego is your home, you can take advantage of free Tuesdays.
Sea World of course, is the granddaddy of all marine animal parks. Sea World is famous for its shows and exhibits featuring sea dwelling animals, up to and including killer whales. Their staff is generally regarded as the world experts in marine wildlife preservation and rescue. Thousands of visitors from the youngest kids to senior citizens enjoy watching these magnificent animals and even getting splashed. Visitors are likely to learn something about conservation that they can incorporate into their everyday lives.
The best attraction of all, of course, is the Pacific Ocean. You can a enjoy a wide variety of water activities along San Diego’s miles of coastline. Many people who make their homes further inland vacation in San Diego because of the ocean. Even those who live further north come for the unbeatable combination of water and sunshine.
Of course the ocean lends itself to more upscale endeavors. Take a sunset cruise or eat at a restaurant overlooking a harbor or beach. Many cruises of the Mexican Riviera start in San Diego Harbor.
A San Diego vacation is not complete without a visit to the beach. Playing in the surf, building sand castles, exploring tide pools and having a beach bonfire are inexpensive and fun. These are experiences that everyone should have. If you’re a little more adventurous about the water, try surfing, body boarding, sailing, fishing, or kayaking. Whale watching cruises are available seasonally. Even during the off season, there are wildlife cruises where you can see local sea life, including dolphins.
This vacation paradise is conveniently located. Since it’s part of the continental U.S., it can be reached by car from much of the country. Not having to fly makes a San Diego vacation much more affordable than other destinations, especially for families. San Diego hosts vacationers from many western states. Visitors from Orange County, Riverside and Los Angeles often go south for a quick weekend getaway, or even a day trip.
If you’re looking for a place to spend an entire week or just a couple of days, San Diego is ideal. More than one family has loved San Diego so much that they decided to move there and buy a home. You can never get enough of a good thing.
I have always wanted to go to Machu Picchu and last year I thought that my chance had gone. The washing away from rockfalls and rain meant that the railway line disappeared. Now the Inca trail to Macchu Pichu is a good idea but the walk means that you need to be there an extra seven days compared with taking the train to Machu Picchu. Well now it is back and it is as good as ever.
Have a look at the video of the Machu Picchu train from Peru Rail and see what you think. It’s in Spanish but even if you don’t speak the language you will appreciate the luxury. I might go twice so I can do the Inca Trail too. If you are thinking of South American Tours then you could do a lot worse than basking in the lap of luxury a bit.
One of the most important ways to get around when you are looking at extended World travel is by air of course. There is no reason to buy the most expensive big ticket round the World flights. By planning well you can bring the price of your major expenses a lot. The article below explains some tips and ideas for getting cheaper airline tickets to make your time away be even more rewarding for you.
Despite all the negative press that the airline industry gets, the reality is that airline travel is an absolute miracle. Only 100 years ago, it was unthinkable to be able to travel to other states or countries in only a matter of hours. The downside of air travel is that it can often be expensive. If the cost was only a few dollars, we might do it much more often. Unfortunately, it usually costs hundreds or thousands of dollars. Luckily, there are a few ways you can get airline tickets for free or for a heavily discounted price.
1. Frequent Flyer Programs
If you regularly spend money with your credit cards, why not get a little something back? Nearly every major airline has a partnership with various credit card companies to give you free miles with every dollar you spend. It may not be technically “free”, but by the end of the year you may have earned enough miles to take a trip to your favorite vacation spot.
2. Bonus Offers
Sometimes, when you buy an expensive item, you can get airline tickets for free. If you are about to buy a new TV, why not look to see who is offering free airline tickets as an incentive? Also, many hotels will give free tickets to their guests if they book for a long enough period of time. Sometimes if you sign up for a gym membership, the gym will award a pair of free tickets to one of their new members every month. Though you may not find them every time, it can be useful to look for offers like these when you can.
3. Raffles, Promotions, Contests, and Giveaways
Many business will hold a Grand Opening promotion, and some businesses do this on a recurring basis. They want to draw attention to their business, and they do this by offering free stuff like airline tickets. You can benefit by entering into these contests and promotions.
4. Book a Flight During the Busy Season
Airline pros who like to travel for free will often deliberately book their flights during the busiest times of the year. This is often during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. Often, these flights will be over booked and airlines will offer people free money and free tickets to take the next flight. It is actually possible to be reimbursed for more cash than you actually paid for the ticket!
Airline tickets aren’t cheap, but luckily it is possible to get them for free. Whether it is by careful scheduling, or as an incentive for stuff we were going to buy anyways, you can definitely get plane tickets for free. Another thing that’s free is taking care of the environment by using a kitchen compost bin and biodegradable trash bags. The longer the earth says beautiful, the more we can take free plane trips!
Vagabonding is taking time out from life to go travelling around the World. However it is not just a meander for many people. Some have taken to incorporating specific aspects into their sabbatical from life. Ralf Potts the Author of the original book about Vagabonding and independent travel inspired Tim Ferriss and between them they have inspired independent endurance travel enthusiasts as in this video below.
You don’t need to participate in endurance events of course, but you should always be looking at what to do on your extended travel away or your vagabond around the World.
And here is a trailer about what it is really like travelling around the World independently
South America Tours should always include a visit to the Southern tip by visiting Argentina and Chile. There is nothing more spectacular than the fjords and mountains of Patagonia and if you are a dinosaur hunter then the Patagonia dinosaur trails are legendary. South American Vacation packages should definitely be open ended because when you get there you will not want to rush to leave.
Bariloche, Argentina
You have to visit Bariloche and San Andres in Patagonia and luckily there are internal flights in Argentina directly from Buenos Aires to Bariloche. However, overland travel from Buenos Aires will give you a much greater experience of the contrasts of this huge country. Once you are down in the Argentinian Patagonia then getting to Chile and visiting the end of the World is an essential part of any trip.
One of the things that you should be making sure you do on your South American Vacation Package is getting as wide range of experiences. If Cusco, the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu are one of the essentials of Peru then looking at the the historic colonial architecture in Honduras should also be high on the radar of the Vagabonding traveller. Honduras is a small country with a fascinating history.
So have a look at the videos below about architecture and more in Honduras.
This video of the idyllic Cayos Cochinos just off the northern coast of Honduras. If you like Scuba Diving then this is one of the few untouched paradises left.
For those thinking of vagabonding their way around the World, South America Tours offer great value for money. If you have a muse business that is bringing you a decent income then you can live like a king on your South American Vacation. One of the highlights of any visit to South America are Machu Picchu Tours up the Inca Trail from Cusco, or Cuzco if you prefer. Have a look at these videos showing what awaits you in Machu Picchu when you finally get there now that the train is back running.
Great video taken with just background music accompanying the images of Southeast Asia Travel. Have you got a video of your trip to south east Asia that you would like to show here. Send us a link and we will embed it for you.
If you are going to be vagabonding around South East Asia then make sure to take a great video camera. The best is probably the Kodak Zi8 in my opinion. It gives high quality 1080p HD pictures and can be instantly connected to your computer through the USB connection.
